Breaking News: Helicopter in President Raisi’s Convoy Crashes

A helicopter from the convoy of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was involved in an accident on Sunday, according to state media. It is not yet confirmed if President Raisi was on board the helicopter.

State television reported that “some unconfirmed reports suggest the helicopter carrying President Raisi crashed in East Azerbaijan province,” and rescue operations are currently underway.

Adverse weather conditions, including heavy fog, are reportedly making it difficult for rescue teams to reach the crash site.

Local media have indicated that Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and other local officials were also traveling in the same helicopter as President Raisi.

President Raisi was visiting East Azerbaijan province to inaugurate a dam project along with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliev, near the border between the two countries.

Ebrahim Raisi, 63, has been the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran since June 2021.
