Court Halts Reinstatement of Emir Sanusi

In a significant development, a Federal High Court in Kano has issued an ex-parte order preventing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from reinstating Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II. The decision will hold until a pending suit challenging the reinstatement is resolved.

The court’s order also opposes the dissolution of four emirates: Bichi, Gaya, Karaye, and Rano. This follows the passage of a bill by the State House of Assembly on Thursday, which had led to the initial move for reinstatement.

Justice A.M. Liman, presiding over the case, has directed all involved parties to maintain the status quo until the suit, filed by Sarkin Dawaki Babba and Aminu Babba-Dan’Agundi, is decided. Additionally, the court has granted permission for the Plaintiff/Applicant to issue and serve their originating motion and other court documents to the 6th Defendant, the Inspector General of Police, in Abuja and outside the court’s jurisdiction.
