President Bola Tinubu has approved an extension of free train rides on the Abuja Rail Mass Transit, commonly known as the Metro Rail, for an additional six months. This extension will keep the service free until the end of the year.
The announcement came during President Tinubu’s speech at the inauguration of the Abuja metro rail operations on Wednesday.
Initially, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had announced a two-month period of complimentary train rides to alleviate commuting challenges for residents of the Federal Capital Territory. However, President Tinubu called for this period to be extended to offer greater hope and reasons for celebration to the people of the FCT.
“Our dear landlord and his team, I heard you saying two months free ride. I appeal to you to make it till the end of the year. Since today you’re not going to charge me, that will give the people hope and reasons to celebrate,” Tinubu stated.
