Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno has dismissed Dr. Bassey Okon from his position as Commissioner for Special Duties, effective immediately. The announcement was made on Monday by Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah.
“In a bid to realign his administration with the ARISE AGENDA, Governor Pastor Eno has removed Dr. Bassey P. Okon from the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council,” Uwah stated. The governor expressed gratitude for Okon’s service and wished him well in future endeavors.
Dr. Okon has been instructed to hand over his duties to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry. Until a new Commissioner is appointed, the Ministry will be overseen by the Secretary to the State Government.
This marks the first dismissal of a Commissioner by Governor Eno. Speculation had been rife that the governor was under pressure to reshuffle his cabinet as he approaches the one-year mark in office, with many current appointees having been inherited from his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel.
