Just in: The Acting Vice Chancellor Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam Set to Launch “COOU Tree Planting & Climate Summit”.

On June 14, 2024, student leaders from Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, including the SUG Executives, SUG Chief Judge Rt. Hon. Justice Nwafor Ogegechukwu B., SUG Attorney General Hon. Comrade Ezehiri Josephat Chinonye (Apostle COOU), faculty presidents, vice presidents, and advisers, met with the Acting Vice Chancellor.

The Acting Vice Chancellor announced a new initiative titled “One Student, One Tree; One Staff, One Tree,” aiming to plant five million trees, including economic, canopy, and cultural trees, over five years to beautify the campus and mitigate sun exposure. This initiative will be launched on July 17, 2024, under the program “COOU Tree Planting & Climate Summit.”

The Acting Vice Chancellor announced the formation of a voluntary committee to maintain campus cleanliness and urged students to keep the campus litter-free. She also addressed the issue of lecturers and course representatives selling textbooks directly to students, mandating that all textbooks be sold in the BOOKSHOP and properly stamped.

During the meeting, the Acting Vice Chancellor sought feedback from the student leaders, who praised her leadership and vision, emphasizing her commitments to the 3Vs VALUES, VIABILITY and VISIBILITY.

The Student Union noted her achievements during her seven-month tenure, including improvements to the school gate, campus cleanliness, consistent electricity, and a positive relationship between students and faculty.

They commended her for enhancing the campus environment and ensuring timely class attendance by lecturers.

The student leaders pledged their support for the Acting Vice Chancellor’s slogan, “We need to take back our environment,” and she reaffirmed her commitment to working with the Student Union Government to further the university’s development.

Finally, the Acting Vice Chancellor announced the commencement of the SUG election process which will kick start very soon, Slated for the third week of the next session as the SUG Election, in line with other Nigerian she warned that Students who wants to contest should not paste their Political fliers on the school gate or litter the school environment

Hon. Comrade Ezehiri Josephat Chinonye (Apostle COOU), the SUG Attorney General, expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Acting Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Mathias Ozoemena Ananti, and the university’s PRO, Dr. Harrison Madubueze. He also thanked the student leaders for their participation in the meeting.
