COOU Vice Chancellor Addresses Unlawful Student Arrests

The Acting Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Professor Kate Omenugha, has expressed strong disapproval over the indiscriminate and unlawful arrests of students by security agencies, particularly during odd hours.

On July 8, 2024, Professor Omenugha, alongside Mr. John from the COOU Igbariam Anti-Cultism Team, met with relevant security agencies. The meeting resulted in the release of all COOU students held in custody and established a protocol ensuring that future arrests involving students, will involve the university’s security and anti-cultism officers.

All lodge securities and presidents are required to call  school  Anti-Cult  squared for a rapid response anytime external security entered into their lodge to carry out any arrest. A helpline has been set up for students and lodge presidents to report any suspicious activities or arrests not conducted by the school Anti-Cultusm team. The contact numbers are:

– Director of Anti-Cult COOU Igbariam, Mr. John: 08030612284

– Black Anti-Cult: 08074033567

Professor Omenugha advises all students to abide by the law and avoid actions that could incriminate them. She assures students of her commitment to their protection.

We appreciate the efforts of Sir, John the Director of the COOU Anti-Cultism team, the Dean of Student Affairs, and the COOU Anti-Cultism team for their dedication and resilience to student safety.
