Nigerian table tennis player Olajide Omotayo was defeated in the Round of 64 of the men’s singles event at the Paris 2024 Olympics, losing 4-1 to Iran’s Noshad Alamiyan.
Omotayo began the match strongly, securing the first set 11-6. However, the 29-year-old was unable to maintain his momentum, subsequently losing the next four sets 11-5, 11-4, 12-10, and 11-8.
This mirrors his performance from four years ago in Tokyo, where he also exited at the same stage.
In other events, Team Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri will face Romania’s Eduard Ionescu in the men’s singles. Meanwhile, Offiong Edem and Fatimo Bello are scheduled to compete in the women’s singles on Sunday and Monday, respectively.
