American singer Taylor Swift has expressed her profound shock and sorrow after a tragic stabbing attack during a dance and yoga class themed around her music in the United Kingdom.
Merseyside Police confirmed that a 9-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries at a regional hospital on Tuesday, following the attack that took place on Monday. Two other girls, aged 6 and 7, were also killed during the incident in Southport, a coastal town in northwest England, as reported by BBC News.
Five other children and two adults remain in critical condition in the hospital.
Authorities have arrested a 17-year-old male on suspicion of attempted murder and murder. A knife was recovered from the scene.
Swift took to Instagram to share her anguish, stating, “The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously, and I’m just completely in shock. The loss of life and the innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and first responders. These were just little kids at a dance class. I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families.”
The community continues to grapple with the devastating impact of this violent act as investigations proceed.
