Vice President Kamala Harris has announced her anticipation of officially accepting the Democratic Party’s nomination for the 2024 presidential race. Harris, who recently gained President Joe Biden’s endorsement after his withdrawal from the race, expressed her gratitude and outlined her vision for the future.
Speaking after garnering the necessary support from Democratic delegates, Harris stated, “Tonight, I am proud to have secured the broad support needed to become our party’s nominee, and as a daughter of California, I am proud that my home state’s delegation helped put our campaign over the top,” as reported by the Guardian.
Harris also addressed her opposition to a second term for former President Donald Trump, asserting, “Donald Trump wants to take our country back to a time before many of us had full freedoms and equal rights. I believe in a future that strengthens our democracy, protects reproductive freedom, and ensures every person has the opportunity to not just get by, but to get ahead.”
It took 32 hours from Biden’s announcement of his withdrawal for Harris to secure the delegate support needed to become the Democratic nominee.
