Two men have been detained in Austria over an alleged terror plot aimed at Taylor Swift’s upcoming concert in Vienna.
The Vienna State Police announced that the suspects, both Austrian nationals, include a 19-year-old who was arrested for planning an attack during Swift’s concert this weekend.
While the specifics of the planned attack are not yet clear, a bomb squad discovered chemical substances during a raid on the 19-year-old’s residence, raising fears of a potential explosive device. Authorities are currently investigating the materials to determine their potential use in bomb-making.
Law enforcement officials are in discussions with the concert organizers, who are expected to brief Taylor Swift’s team on the situation. With an anticipated crowd of nearly 85,000 fans each day, security measures are being heightened, and the Vienna Secret Police will maintain a high alert status to ensure safety.
Franz Ruf, Director-General for Public Safety, disclosed that the suspects had self-radicalized online. The 19-year-old suspect allegedly pledged allegiance to the Islamic State. The identities of the suspects have not been disclosed.
This incident follows a recent violent episode involving Taylor Swift’s fans. In the UK, a 17-year-old suspect was arrested after a massacre at a Taylor Swift-themed dance workshop.
