On Tuesday, a group of agitated youths protesting against poor governance and widespread hunger across Nigeria reportedly invaded the Port Harcourt residence of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
While the protests have diminished in Abuja, they have intensified in Wike’s home state, Rivers. The demonstrators gathered outside the mansion of the former Rivers State Governor in Port Harcourt, marking the sixth consecutive day of their protest.
In response, the Nigeria Police Force announced the deployment of additional officers to the area to maintain order and ensure safety.
On the first day of the protests, the demonstrators also stormed the Government House, publicly embarrassing Governor Sim Fubara, who had tried to placate them by offering money for bottled water.
