The Edo State Government has instructed security agencies to arrest members of the #EndBadGovernance protest who are found blocking major roads, obstructing traffic, and extorting motorists.
Chris Osa Nehikhare, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, issued this directive on Sunday in a statement released in Benin City. Nehikhare emphasized that individuals apprehended for these activities will face strict legal consequences.
“We want to warn those attempting to exploit the protest for criminal activities that security forces are authorized to arrest anyone disrupting public peace or committing crimes,” Nehikhare stated.
He noted that the state government has received reports of individuals blocking roads and extorting motorists, and security personnel have been instructed to detain those involved.
Despite this, Nehikhare praised the protesters for their peaceful conduct during the nationwide demonstrations, highlighting their responsible behavior in voicing concerns about national issues. He commended their cooperation with the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to maintain order during the protests.
Nehikhare assured law-abiding citizens that they can continue their daily activities without fear, as the government remains committed to the state’s growth and progress.
