Man Sent for Mental Evaluation After Climbing Mast in Protest
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command has sent Shuaibu Alhaji Yushau for mental evaluation at the Social Development Secretariat (SDS) following his dramatic protest on July 8, 2024. Yushau climbed a high broadband mast at ASO Radio in Katampe, Abuja, threatening to take his life if the fuel subsidy was not reinstated and insecurity issues were not addressed.
SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the command, stated that if Yushau is found mentally stable after the assessment, he will face charges in court for attempted su!cide, disturbing public peace, and incitement. These charges are in line with sections 231, 111, and 114 of the Penal Code Act.
Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, emphasized the importance of law-abiding behavior while encouraging residents to voice their concerns without causing public disorder.
