Unidentified attackers have murdered Comrade Anselm Oyibo, a prominent community leader from Obodougwa-Ogume in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State. Oyibo, the former Chairman of the Community Development Committee, was brutally killed with machetes and his body, along with his motorcycle, was set on fire.
The grisly discovery of Oyibo’s charred remains and motorcycle was made at Obodougwa Ogume Junction on the Kwale-Obiaruku Road.
Local residents, speaking anonymously to Punch, recounted that Oyibo left his Kwale residence at around 11:30 pm on Sunday after receiving a phone call. “He abruptly got up, started his motorcycle, and took a call. We assumed he was going to his second wife’s house,” a source said. When he failed to return the next morning, concern grew, leading to calls to his second wife who confirmed he never arrived.
Calls to Oyibo’s phone initially rang unanswered before going dead. News later emerged of a body found at the junction, later identified as Oyibo’s. “He was killed with machetes and set ablaze. His body has been taken to the mortuary,” the source added.
State Police Command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident. “Yes, efforts are ongoing to unravel the circumstances that led to his death,” he said.
