Senate President Urges Wike to Disregard Criticism from Senator Kingibe

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has advised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to overlook criticisms from FCT Senator Ireti Kingibe. This recommendation was made during the inauguration of the Kugbo Bus Terminal construction project, which aims to transform the city’s transportation infrastructure.

Praising Wike’s efforts to improve the capital’s infrastructure, Akpabio dismissed Kingibe’s complaints about her exclusion from FCT administrative activities. Kingibe, representing the Labour Party, won her Senate seat by defeating Philip Aduda, an ally of Wike, in the 2023 elections. Tensions have been high between Kingibe and Wike, who was appointed FCT minister in August 2023, since then.

On July 1, Kingibe publicly expressed her displeasure, alleging that Wike was sidelining her. In retaliation, Wike, a prominent Peoples Democratic Party member serving in an All Progressives Congress cabinet, threatened to unseat Kingibe in the next election.

Addressing the audience at the Kugbo Bus Terminal event, Akpabio criticized Kingibe and reaffirmed his support for Wike. “Ignore every distraction from her,” Akpabio stated, emphasizing that not everyone will praise Wike’s efforts, and some will always find faults.
