From the Office of the SUG Attorney General, Apostle COOU

In a groundbreaking environmental effort, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has launched an ambitious project titled “One Student, One Tree; One Staff, One Tree.” This initiative aims to plant five million trees over the next five years, incorporating a variety of economic, canopy, and cultural trees.

The tree-planting initiative, which is scheduled to be launched on July 17, 2024, during the “COOU Tree Planting & Climate Summit,” promises numerous benefits for the university community and the environment. These benefits include purifying the air, enhancing the beauty of the school environment, mitigating sun exposure, combating climate change, reducing greenhouse gases, providing shade and shelter, preventing flooding, and improving mental health.

The Acting Vice Chancellor has a visionary plan for this project, aiming to involve every student and staff member in the tree-planting effort. The initiative reflects a deep commitment to environmental sustainability and improving the overall quality of life on campus.

In light of this significant development, the Office of the SUG Attorney General, Apostle COOU, urges all students from the Igbariam, Uli, and Awka campuses to actively participate and support the Acting Vice Chancellor in achieving this noble goal.

The Acting Vice Chancellor’s tenure has already seen substantial improvements at COOU, including the beautification of the school gate and various other projects. These efforts have not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the campus but have also been steps towards realizing the university’s vision of being “The Now University and of the Future.”

Recognition and appreciation are due to the Acting Vice Chancellor for these progressive initiatives that are being both proposed and actualized. The gratitude of the entire university community is extended for her dedicated efforts towards development and sustainability.
