The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, has confirmed the enforcement of the ban on motorcycles, commonly known as Okada, across the state.
Edafe emphasized that Okada riders should cease operation and secure their bikes, noting that the Delta State Government has mandated the crushing of any seized motorcycles. This announcement was made on Sunday through Edafe’s X (formerly Twitter) account.
In his tweet, Edafe stated, “The enforcement of the ban on motorcycles popularly called Okada is serious, and that’s exactly how we take it. The ban is real, so it’s better you carry your bike and lock it somewhere because Edafe Bright cannot help when it’s impounded. The directive from the State Government is to crush them all.”
The Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Emu, disclosed the ban during a press briefing in Asaba. The briefing followed a State Council Meeting on May 24, chaired by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Emu explained that the ban was prompted by a rise in crimes and vandalism associated with Okada use, with strict enforcement set to commence on Saturday, June 1.
