Leke Adeboye, Lead Pastor at The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Living Seed, The Bridge, Ikeja, Lagos, has called on the Nigerian government to prioritize grassroots needs and enhance citizen engagement.
During an interview with Elliptical News at a crusade titled 'Jesus in the Park' at Ikeja City Mall, Adeboye stressed the importance of maintaining grassroots connections even after elections. He noted that the current situation stems from long-term bad governance and that improving conditions requires prayer and collective effort. He urged politicians to continue the active engagement seen during their campaigns while in office, emphasizing the necessity of regular town hall meetings and open communication with citizens.
Adeboye advised the government to address past issues transparently and keep citizens informed to foster patience and understanding.
The 'Jesus in the Park' event aims to extend the church's outreach beyond its walls, reaching people in public spaces such as malls. The initiative includes delivering messages, praying, offering free medical checkups, and providing food. By 10 am, around 3,000 people had registered, with provisions made for up to 5,000 attendees. The goal is to emulate Jesus's outreach efforts by addressing both spiritual and physical needs.
Pastor Adebayo Akinduyite highlighted the joy in heaven over every soul that accepts Christ and encouraged upright living during his sermon at the event. Over 4,000 attendees participated, enjoying sermons, praise songs from gospel artists, and various free services, including medical checkups, hair and makeup services, and distribution of food, beverages, clothing, and other gifts.
