Just in: Chelsea in Talks with Enzo Maresca for Managerial Position – Reports

Chelsea is reportedly in discussions to appoint Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca as their new head coach, according to British media sources.

Maresca, an Italian who served as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City until last year, has successfully guided Leicester back to the Premier League following their relegation a year ago. His impressive style of football has caught the attention of Chelsea’s hierarchy. Reports on Monday indicate that Chelsea has sought Leicester’s permission to negotiate directly with Maresca, who is seen as the leading candidate for the job.

Chelsea is on the hunt for a new manager after parting ways with Mauricio Pochettino. Pochettino, who managed Chelsea for just one season, saw the team finish sixth in the Premier League, securing a spot in the Europa Conference League but missing out on Champions League qualification and any trophies. Chelsea suffered a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool in the League Cup final and lost to Manchester City by the same score in the FA Cup semi-finals.

Despite these setbacks, Chelsea ended the season with a positive run of five consecutive wins, ensuring their participation in European competition next season. Other potential candidates for the managerial role include Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Kieran McKenna, who also achieved top-flight promotion with Ipswich.
