LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT HITS HARD ON OBTAINING PERMITS BEFORE RENOVATION OF STRUCTURES.
Construction workers in Lagos state pending the new law requires a permit henceforth from the Lagos State Physical Planning permit Authority (LASPPPA) before renovation, retiling homes, re-plastering, and other improvement which subjected to the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Regulations, 2019.
Details of renovation, and permits earlier obtained (if any) must be submitted to LASPPPA with a fee which is equal to 25% of current processing fee and home owners application must be in accordance to the standard planning before approval is given.
For long, construction experts has stated the need for the permits in accordance with building codes to maintain safety and integrity of structures with bringing to members of the public the role of LASPPPA to ensure compliance as many home owners are ignorant of safety compliance for both commercial and residential building where permits must be obtained before renovations according to the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Regulations, 2019, under the Lagos State Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law, cap U2 of 2015 as it is unlawful to renovate without the prior notice and approval of Lagos State Physical and Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA).
According to some experts, there are way more benefits of obtaining permits before renovation as they ensure buildings are in line with safety codes which assures safety and habitability of the structures as every modification to buildings is trusted prior to approval of LASPPPA which is approved to meet regulatory standards without a compromise of the structures integrity as before permits are granted, the agency must have checked the environmental compliance of the structure and recommend standards procedures to follow which wouldn't affect or violate any environmental compliance.
