Minister David Umahi Laments Betrayal by Political Allies

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has expressed dismay over the treatment he has received from many individuals he helped during the 2023 general elections. In a candid conversation with journalists on Thursday, Umahi revealed that several National Assembly members he supported are now avoiding him.

Umahi singled out Chief Onyekachi Nwebonyi as the only one who openly acknowledges him as a mentor and boss. He suggested that others fear acknowledging him would anger the state governor, his successor, despite the governor openly recognizing Umahi's role in his rise to power.

The minister announced a shift in his political relationships, moving away from having political godsons to cultivating political friendships. He reaffirmed his respect and support for the current governor, emphasizing his intent to avoid conflicts common between predecessors and successors.

"I will fight anybody who makes trouble with the governor because he deserves our respect. I have done my bit, have left the stage, and have to respect myself," Umahi stated.

Umahi pledged his unwavering support for Governor Nwifuru over the next eight years, expressing gratitude for the governor's efforts to unite the state's leaders. He reflected on his decision to make Nwifuru his successor, highlighting Nwifuru's loyalty during their transition to the APC.

David Umahi's political career includes serving as the senator representing Ebonyi South from June to August 2023, the governor of Ebonyi State from 2015 to 2023, and as deputy governor from 2011 to 2015.
