Umuahia, Abia State - To commemorate his first year in office, Abia State Governor Alex Otti has called for prayers to support the progress of his administration and the state.
Speaking on Sunday during an inter-denominational church service in Umuahia, the state capital, Governor Otti expressed gratitude to the electorate and to God. "We are here to thank Jesus and the people who elected us, as well as God who has guided us," he said. He emphasized his commitment to serving both God and the people, stating, "We are dedicated to doing the right thing, no matter the cost." Otti also invited constructive criticism, assuring that he would not be distracted by opposition.
"The opposition may gather, but they will ultimately scatter," he remarked, addressing his critics.
Reflecting on his first year, Otti described it as an opportunity to review his performance and identify areas for improvement.
He praised the unity among churches in the state and assured that his administration does not discriminate against non-Abians in appointments. "We focus on skills and competence, not ethnicity or state of origin," he said, noting that the best candidates are selected for positions.
Governor Otti also unveiled plans to develop Umuahia, aiming to transform it into a proper capital city, similar to Oshodi in Lagos State. "Umuahia will see significant changes in the next year," he assured.
During the service, Dr. Emma Onwunta of the Presbyterian Church in Ohafia reminded the congregation to thank God, using Otti as an example.
