Owerri, Imo State – A tragic accident claimed the lives of seven people in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, when a truck collided with minibuses at the University of Imo State junction on Saturday.
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck, defying traffic regulations, crashed into several minibuses, each carrying nine passengers. The collision resulted in the immediate death of seven individuals, whose bodies were subsequently transported to a nearby morgue. Other injured victims were rushed to the Federal University of Technology Hospital for treatment.
In the aftermath of the incident, a large crowd gathered at the hospital, desperately seeking information about their loved ones. Efforts to reach the state's police public relations officer for comments were unsuccessful, as calls and messages went unanswered. The accident also caused significant traffic congestion, exacerbated by onlookers blocking parts of the road.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
