Young Man Electrocuted While Attempting Armored Cable Theft in Rivers State

A young man was electrocuted while attempting to steal an armored cable from a transformer in the Mgboaba/NTA area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Thursday.

The man had targeted the transformer during a blackout but was caught when power was restored. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud sound from the transformer when electricity returned. An anonymous witness described the scene, noting the man's body was severely burnt and turned black.

Another local resident, Chika, identified the man as a well-known figure in the area who sold water to residents. The authorities, including the police and officials from the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, responded to the scene and removed the body after being alerted by the community.

Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the state police command, stated that further information would be obtained from the Divisional Police Officer. As of Thursday evening, no additional details had been provided.
