In a recent social media post, Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has disclosed the reasons behind his absence at the funeral of his late colleague, Junior Pope. Edochie, who has recently taken up pastoral duties, attributed his non-attendance to a series of betrayals by Pope.
Edochie explained that despite viewing Pope as a brother and being supportive during his times of need, he felt repeatedly backstabbed by the late movie producer. This revelation came after numerous inquiries from the public about why he was not present at the burial.
"I didn’t want to say anything till after his burial. I know many asked why I wasn’t there or why I haven’t said anything about it," Edochie wrote. "I took him like a brother and good friend. I was there for him when he needed me. But he stabbed me in the back, repeatedly. That’s life!"
Edochie also cautioned his followers to be mindful of their wishes for others, as such wishes could eventually return to them. He promised to share more details about the betrayal soon to help others learn from his experience.
His post, however, has sparked widespread criticism among Nigerians. Many questioned his decision to publicize his grievances, especially given his recent declaration as a pastor. Social media users urged him to let go of past hurts and embrace forgiveness.
One user, Atuanya Chigozie, commented, "@yuledochie, my brother, you have to let go of all that… One needs to move forward in life and forget the past. We pray for progression and long life. So bro, forget about all that…. no need bro."
Another user, Official Salma, questioned, "How do you talk about not posting anything regarding his death or attending his funeral because you’re not on good terms with him? How? Unfollowing you asap, your heart is too dark."
On January 29, Edochie launched his online ministry, True Salvation Ministry, conducting his inaugural service on YouTube. During this virtual gathering, Edochie shared his spiritual journey and the divine calling that led him to ministry, following a life-altering car accident. This incident, he revealed, marked the beginning of a transformative phase in his life, dedicated to serving God and humanity.
