The outbreak, which surged between June 10 and 11, primarily affected Lagos Island, Kosofe, and Eti-Osa.

Cholera, often linked to poor sanitation and contaminated water, has seen an increase due to the rainy season. In Eti-Osa, a survey revealed that many patients had consumed a tiger nut drink, leading officials to trace and test the product. It was found that these drinks were not registered with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), raising significant safety concerns. The cholera strain identified was Vibrio cholera subtype 01, known for its high infectivity and severity.

The government has set up an emergency office in Yaba and intensified public health campaigns, emphasizing the importance of hygiene and discouraging self-medication with antibiotics. Free treatment, including oral rehydration therapy, is provided at public hospitals and primary healthcare centers.
