The Federal Government has announced that Monday, June 17, and Tuesday, June 18, 2024, will be public holidays in observance of the Eid-el-Kabir festival. This announcement was made on Friday via a statement signed by Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, extended his congratulations to the Muslim community both within Nigeria and abroad, encouraging them to uphold the values of peace, kindness, and sacrifice as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim. He also urged the Muslim faithful to use this period to pray for the country's unity, prosperity, and stability.
The minister reiterated the government's commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of Nigerians and called for support in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to diversify the economy and accelerate economic recovery.
In a separate statement by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu will observe Eid-el-Kabir in Lagos, where he will also spend the Sallah holidays. The President will mark the occasion with prayers and reflection on advancing his Renewed Hope Agenda for Nigeria's transformation.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Sunday, June 16, as Eid-el-Kabir day, following the confirmation that Friday is the first day of Dhul Hijjah. This was conveyed in a statement by Sambo Junaid, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sultanate Council.
The Sultan extended his felicitations to the Muslim community, wishing them Allah’s guidance and blessings. He also called on the Muslim faithful to continue praying for the peace, progress, and development of Nigeria, and wished all Muslims a happy Eid-el-Kabir.
