In a devastating incident, businessman Mike Chuks reported losing a truck valued at N30 million to a fire that broke out late Saturday night at the Obasanjo Trailer Park in Ogere, Remo-North Local Government Area of Ogun State. Chuks revealed the absence of firefighters allowed the fire to spread uncontrollably, resulting in the complete destruction of his truck.
The fire, which started around 11 pm on Saturday, is believed to have originated from one of the shops in the park before engulfing the truck, which was undergoing minor repairs. Chuks, who spoke with ELLIPTICAL NEWS on Sunday at the scene, expressed his distress over the incident, noting that the lack of immediate firefighting response exacerbated the damage.
Eyewitness Musa, who was at the park during the fire, recounted the chaotic efforts to contain the blaze. "The fire started around 11 pm when we were already sleeping. I heard a loud blast, and suddenly, there was fire everywhere," Musa said. He added that residents used buckets of water from nearby gutters to douse the flames due to the unavailability of firefighters.
Chuks explained that he was alerted to the fire by one of his workers and learned that the blaze had originated from a nearby makeshift shop. "I lost my Aero 5 truck, which is worth N30 million. The fire spread from a shop to my truck, and despite the efforts to control it, my truck was completely burnt," he lamented. Chuks expressed his hope for assistance to recover from the significant loss.
When reached for comments, Ogun State Fire Service Director Fatai Adefala confirmed awareness of the incident and stated that firefighters had been mobilized to the scene, but further details were pending. Additionally, Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), confirmed that injured individuals were taken to Victory Hospital in Ogere and that community efforts, along with TRACE and police support, eventually brought the fire under control.
The fire incident has raised concerns about the adequacy of emergency response services in the area, as affected individuals and community members call for improved measures to prevent future occurrences.
