Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, visited the widows of soldiers killed in Aba during a recent sit-at-home protest declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra. During his visit to the 144 battalion headquarters of the Nigerian Army in Ukwa West Local Government Area, Governor Otti expressed his condolences and vowed to bring those responsible for the killings to justice.
Governor Otti condemned the attack, attributing it to criminals seeking to destabilize the state. He assured that the government would continue to denounce such acts and work diligently to apprehend the perpetrators. "It is very sad, but we must move forward by identifying and punishing those responsible," he stated.
In a show of support, Governor Otti announced automatic scholarships for the children of the deceased soldiers, extending up to the university level. He committed to formalizing these scholarships through the state House of Assembly to ensure future administrations uphold this support.
Brigadier General Olusola Diya, Commander of the 14 Brigade Ohafia, reported ongoing efforts to apprehend those behind the attack, revealing that two Army vehicles were burned, weapons were stolen, and five soldiers lost their lives during the incident. He emphasized that intelligence is being gathered to bring all connected to the heinous act to justice.
