Leicester City has confirmed that Jamie Vardy, 37, has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until June 2025.
The veteran striker will continue to be a pivotal player for the Foxes as they prepare for their return to the English Premier League in the 2024/25 season. Vardy's remarkable journey from non-league football to Premier League star has made him an inspirational figure at the King Power Stadium.
In the 2023/24 season, Vardy scored 20 goals in all competitions, solidifying his position as the club's third-highest all-time goalscorer with 190 goals. Since joining from Fleetwood Town in 2012, he has made 464 appearances, contributing to Leicester City's Premier League, FA Cup, Community Shield, and two second-tier title victories.
Vardy expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season on the club's website, stating, "To get the numbers that I did [last season], I’m delighted with it, but there’s still more to come. I look after myself. I’ve always said that age is just a number. My legs feel fine so that’s why I carry on until my legs say ‘That’s it, game over’. There will be a day when that comes, but that’s not right now."
Having been instrumental in Leicester's promotion campaigns and their historic Premier League title win in 2015/16, Vardy's impact at the club is undeniable. He also holds the record for scoring in 11 consecutive Premier League games, surpassing Ruud van Nistelrooy's previous record.
In European competitions, Vardy's crucial goal against Sevilla in the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League last-16 secured Leicester a spot in the quarter-finals. His consistency continued, and in the 2019/20 season, he became the oldest winner of the Premier League Golden Boot, with 23 goals.
