Just in: Nigeria-UAE Visa Dispute Resolved, Issuance to Resume Soon: FG

The visa dispute between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates has been resolved, and visa issuance will resume soon, according to Nigeria's Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

Keyamo revealed that the UAE government will lift the travel restrictions that have prevented Nigerians from visiting, particularly to Dubai. This announcement was made at a welcome dinner for delegates attending the International Air Transport Association's 80th Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit in Dubai.

The UAE had imposed a visa ban on Nigeria due to various diplomatic conflicts. In August 2023, President Bola Tinubu intervened to address the visa issues and the suspension of Emirates Airlines flights to Nigeria.

At the AGM, with over 2000 delegates in attendance, Keyamo was accompanied by Dubai's ruler, Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum, receiving applause. In a statement to journalists, Keyamo confirmed that the visa issues had been resolved and that the final announcement would be made soon after finalizing the details.

Keyamo emphasized the importance of maintaining good relations with the UAE, noting significant Nigerian investments in the country. He highlighted efforts to facilitate easier visa applications for Nigerians and appreciated the warm reception from Dubai's leadership, indicating restored trust and cooperation between the nations.
