Just in: Okupe Urges Nigerians To Be Patience with Tinubu's Administration

Doyin Okupe, the former Director-General of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, has called on Nigerians to exercise patience with President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Speaking on Channels Television’s "Politics Today" on Friday, Okupe emphasized the unique challenges facing the new government.

Okupe, who left the Labour Party in January citing ideological differences, highlighted the dire state of the economy inherited by Tinubu's administration. “You can never and should never judge this administration like you judged other administrations. Because this is an abnormal situation in which this administration came to life," he said, referencing the economic downturn of the past eight years.

Okupe also asserted that Tinubu was the most capable and committed candidate in the 2023 presidential election, based on his extensive knowledge and past achievements, particularly in Lagos.

Addressing the recent national grid shutdown, Okupe supported the view of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, labeling the incident a "treasonable offence" and criticized the lack of security and intelligence that allowed such an event to occur. He condemned the labor actions leading to the grid shutdown, describing them as "evil, sinful, unacceptable, and criminal."

Okupe’s comments come amidst ongoing debates about the best approach to governance in the face of Nigeria’s current economic and political challenges.
