Just in: Peter Obi Visits Family of Kidnapped Anambra Governorship Candidate

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi paid a visit to the family of the kidnapped Labour Party governorship candidate, Obiora Agbasimalo, at their home in Ikeja, Lagos, on Tuesday. Obi also offered condolences for the recent death of Pa Emmanuel Agbasimalo, the father of the kidnapped candidate, who passed away on May 20, 2024.

Photos of the visit were shared by Eucharia Agbasimalo, the wife of the missing candidate, on social media on Thursday. Obiora Agbasimalo was abducted in the Azia community, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, in September 2021 while on his way to a political event. His whereabouts remain unknown.

The Agbasimalo family expressed gratitude for Obi's visit, noting that he not only mourned with them over the loss of Pa Emmanuel but also empathized with their ongoing anguish over their missing son. They highlighted the significance of Obi's visit, especially as the Labour Party's national and state leadership has been criticized for neglecting their kidnapped candidate.

In his visit, Obi assured the family that he would leverage his influence to seek justice and resolve the matter. The family has called on the Labour Party and the public to join them in demanding justice for their missing son and criticized the party's leadership for their inaction.

Two individuals are currently on trial at the Nnewi High Court in connection with the kidnapping.
