Minimum Wage Strike: NLC Maintains Position

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced that it remains on strike.

The NLC stated that its leadership will convene to discuss the results of their meeting with the Federal Government.

In a Tuesday post on X, the NLC noted, "We are still on strike until our organs meet and decide today, June 4th."

Although the Federal Government and the organized labor reached a potential agreement to end the strike on Monday, the labor unions had initiated an indefinite strike to demand better wages.

This strike prompted a meeting between the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and labor leaders in Abuja.

The meeting concluded with an agreement that the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage would resume negotiations after the labor unions had withdrawn. The National Assembly intervened on June 2, 2024, following the organized labor's nationwide strike declaration on June 3, 2024.

In response, the Federal Government held a meeting on June 3rd, emphasizing the President's commitment to a national minimum wage exceeding N60,000.
