Nnamdi Kanu Files Contempt Charge Against DSS DG Yusuf Bichi

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has initiated a contempt charge against Yusuf Bichi, Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), for allegedly defying court orders. The charge, filed through Kanu’s lawyer Aloy Ejimakor, was submitted on Monday at the Federal High Court (FHC) in Abuja.

The application, labeled as FHC/ABJ/CR/383/2015 and dated June 10, accuses Bichi of ignoring directives issued by Justice Binta Nyako on May 20. These directives included allowing Kanu three visitation days per week and providing a safe, clean room for Kanu to prepare his defense with his legal team. Despite these orders, Kanu alleges that the DSS DG has not complied.

The Federal Republic of Nigeria is listed as the complainant, with Yusuf Magaji Bichi as the second respondent. Justice Nyako had earlier denied Kanu's requests to set aside his 2017 bail revocation, transfer him to Kuje Correctional Centre, or place him under house arrest. However, she did adjust the conditions for Kanu's visitation and defense preparation.

Kanu’s legal filing demands that Bichi show cause why he should not be committed to prison for failing to adhere to the court's orders. The court is expected to address the contempt charge in an upcoming hearing.
