In a remarkable display of integrity, Superintendent of Police Ibrahim Sini has revealed that he refused a N150 million bribe allegedly offered by Lagos-based businessman Akintoye Akindele. Akindele, facing charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja, is currently held at Kuje Correctional Centre.
The bribe, as per the charge sheet, was intended to persuade the police to facilitate Akindele's escape abroad and to draft a favorable report post-investigation. Sini, leading the Inspector General of Police’s investigative team, stood firm against the offer.
Speaking at a dinner held in his honor on Friday, Sini expressed his gratitude to the event's organizers and shared his experience. "I was asked if I wanted to be rich, but I chose peace of mind over ill-gotten wealth," he stated. He emphasized the importance of earning money that allows one to sleep peacefully at night, rejecting anything that could lead to a life of constant fear and hiding.
At the event, Sini was awarded a plot of land in Abuja. He used the platform to advise the youth to uphold their integrity, no matter the temptation.
Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, commended Sini's actions, highlighting that his conduct has brought pride to the Nigerian Police Force.
