Following the Tripartite Committee's negotiations on the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and Labour's subsequent withdrawal, the National Assembly leadership intervened on June 2, 2024. In response, Organized Labour initiated a nationwide strike on June 3, 2024, to press its demands.
The Federal Government, prioritizing national interest, convened a meeting with Labour in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on June 3 to resolve the strike.
After thorough discussions, the following resolutions were agreed upon:
1. The President of Nigeria is committed to implementing a National Minimum Wage higher than N60,000.
2. The Tripartite Committee will meet daily for the next week to finalize an agreeable National Minimum Wage.
3. Labour, respecting the President's commitment, will hold an immediate meeting to consider this commitment.
4. No worker will face repercussions for participating in the industrial action.
