Nigerian Afrobeat singer Terry Akewe, popularly known as Terri, has revealed the various challenges he has encountered in his music career, including health issues, cyberbullying, and significant personal sacrifices.
In a series of posts on X, Terri disclosed his battles with ulcer complications and anxiety, which have led to frequent hospital visits and overwhelming medical bills. He shared, “Ulcer complications, anxiety issues. In and out of the hospital. Crazy hospital bills, mum losing her mind, all for the music. Shit crazy. Jesus never fails. We go win finally.”
Terri, who is signed to Wizkid’s Starboy Records, rose to fame after featuring on Wizkid’s track “Soco.” He has since released his debut EP, “Afro Series,” which includes hits like “Shuu,” “Turn on Me,” “Bia,” and “Same You.”
Despite his success, Terri's journey has been fraught with difficulties. He admitted to losing friendships and family connections while trying to find his identity in the music industry. “Lost friendships, family, just trying to find myself. Stanship war and distractions, something I know little or nothing about,” he said.
Terri also opened up about the financial struggles that forced him to sacrifice his education. “2018, after getting admission into UNILAG three times and couldn’t make it cause of finances, I was ready in 2018 to begin study, I quit cause of this music. I gave my all to it,” he explained.
Cyberbullying has been another significant challenge for the artist. “Since I got in here, suffered so much cyberbullying. All I wanna do is sing,” Terri confessed.
In his heartfelt appeal, Terri asked for support from his audience, saying, “Please, just see Terri for Terri. This shit is my whole life…. Support my craft.”
