Appeal Court Upholds N5 Million Adultery Fine Against Daddy Freeze

The Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt has confirmed the N5 million fine imposed on Ifedayo Olarinde, popularly known as Daddy Freeze, for committing adultery.

This decision upholds a 2021 ruling by a High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, which ordered Daddy Freeze to pay N5 million to Paul Odekina. Odekina had accused Daddy Freeze of having an affair with his then-wife, Benedicta Elechi.

The High Court's judgment included the dissolution of Odekina's marriage to Elechi due to her adulterous relationship with Daddy Freeze. Despite Daddy Freeze's appeal, which argued improper service of court documents, the appellate court dismissed his case for lack of merit.

The three-judge panel, consisting of Justices Abubakar Talba, Danlami Senchi, and Hannatu Balogun, ruled that Daddy Freeze failed to follow proper legal procedures to counter the affidavit of service. Consequently, the appeal was dismissed, and the initial ruling affirmed without an order for costs.

The case saw Ola Faro and Ikobah Hilton representing the appellant, while N.A. Naenwi and Wilcox Abereton (SAN) appeared for the respondents.
