Breaking News: Bandits Release Judge's Children After Killing Eldest Son Over Unpaid Ransom

After 15 days in captivity, the three children of Kaduna State Judge Janet Gimba have been freed by bandits. The release comes after the tragic killing of Judge Gimba’s 14-year-old son, Victor, who was murdered when the family couldn't meet the N300 million ransom demand.

The details surrounding the children's release remain unclear, but photos of them with National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu in Abuja were shared on Facebook by users Musa Gimba and Sixtus Omokhagbor.

The Nigerian Bar Association's Kaduna Branch Chairman, Godwin Ochai, confirmed the children's release on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, expressing gratitude to all who supported the family during the ordeal.

Gloria Ballason, a human rights lawyer and CEO of the House of Justice, detailed the kidnapping, which occurred on June 30, 2024. She reported that the abductors, numbering about 15, took the family hostage and demanded a substantial ransom. On July 2, when the ransom couldn't be paid, the terrorists shot Victor, whose body was later found by police at Ungwan Bayero, Duste village along the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway.

A family source revealed that the surviving siblings are unaware of their brother's fate.
