Earlier today, Donald Trump clinched the Republican presidential nomination through a formal roll call vote at the convention.
House Speaker Mike Johnson confirmed Trump's victory with 2,387 votes, surpassing the required threshold. However, adjustments were made in three states and Washington, DC, where votes were allocated as per convention rules.
North Carolina allocated 12 votes, Virginia 6, Michigan 4, and the District of Columbia 19. These allocations reportedly matched delegates won by Nikki Haley in those states, as estimated by CNN.
Notably, one vote from South Dakota's unbound delegation was reportedly not counted, accounting for the discrepancy between Trump's total and the available votes.
During the roll call, delegates' votes sometimes diverged from primary season outcomes, owing to party rules and efforts to unify support behind the presumptive nominee. This unity was underscored by Haley's earlier release of delegates to support Trump.
Despite Trump's pivotal support from Florida, where he resides, the roll call did not follow typical alphabetical order. Iowa and Nevada, starting states in the presidential primary process, led the voting, with Florida voting 21st and states won by Haley casting their votes towards the end of the roll call.
