Trump Supporters Show Solidarity with Ear Bandages After Assassination Attempt
Republican supporters and delegates have begun demonstrating their support for former President Donald Trump by donning makeshift ear bandages in a show of solidarity. This gesture follows a recent assassination attempt targeting Trump at a rally, where he sustained injuries to his right ear, and one individual tragically lost their life.
During the rally, held on Saturday, a gunman identified as Thomas Crooks opened fire, injuring Trump and fatally shooting Corey Comperatore, aged 50. Two others, David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, sustained injuries but are now in stable condition. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
Trump made a surprise appearance at the Republican National Convention on Monday, marking his first public outing since the incident. Supporters warmly greeted him as he sported a white bandage wrapped around his injured ear.
At the convention’s second night, attendees were seen wearing symbolic ear bandages crafted from various materials, including folded paper and adhesive tape, all placed on their right ears. This visual display aimed to express unity and support for Trump amidst the ongoing aftermath of the attempted assassination.
Arizona delegate Joe Neglia, among the first to adopt the trend, shared with CBS News that he fashioned his bandage using an envelope during his bus ride to the event. Reflecting on the gesture, Neglia remarked, “This is the newest fashion trend. I’m getting this going. Everybody in the world is going to be wearing these pretty soon."
The collective wearing of ear bandages by Trump’s supporters underscores a strong show of solidarity and support during a tense and uncertain period following the targeted attack on the former president.
