Trip Details:
Over 12 days, participants will paddle rafts along a 300-kilometer (180-mile) stretch of the arctic mountain river, experiencing an elevation drop of 800 meters (2400 feet). Access to the Snake River is via floatplane and helicopter, making this a unique and adventurous journey.
Running parallel to the border of the Yukon and Northwest Territories near the Arctic Circle, the Snake River is one of the most remote northern rivers. It offers superb mountain hiking and whitewater rafting and canoeing opportunities.
Situated at the northern end of the Rocky and Mackenzie Mountain Chain, the Peel River Watershed is a rugged region encompassing over 67,500 square kilometers. This area is renowned for its unspoiled beauty and ecological integrity, surpassing the likes of Banff and Yellowstone national parks. It is home to the Peel, Ogilvie, Blackstone, Hart, Wind, Snake, and Bonnet Plume rivers, each contributing to the region's striking wilderness.
The Snake River offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, including Dall sheep, caribou, grizzly bears, wolves, and moose, along with breathtaking panoramic vistas.
Starting from the alpine Duo Lakes to the confluence with the Peel River, the Snake River raft expedition is suitable for beginners, while canoeists must possess advanced whitewater paddling skills.
