House Oversight Committee Requests Secret Service Documentation Amid Assassination Attempt Investigation

The House Oversight Committee Republicans have sent a letter to Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, requesting an extensive array of documents and communications related to former President Donald Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. This action is part of the committee's ongoing investigation into an assassination attempt on Trump.

The detailed request includes text messages, email communications, a list of law enforcement personnel present at the rally, and any pre-site surveys identifying security concerns at the location. The committee has emphasized the urgency of these requests, asking for some documents to be provided before a scheduled hearing on July 22, where Director Cheatle is expected to testify, and others by July 29.

“The Committee seeks clarity regarding the United States Secret Service’s (Secret Service) management of resources and personnel related to the July 13, 2024, campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania,” the Oversight Committee Republicans stated in their letter obtained by CNN.

CNN has reached out to the Secret Service for comment on the matter.

This investigation highlights the scrutiny on the Secret Service's operations and resource management in the wake of the attempted assassination.
