Just in: Nigerian Singer Tems Secures Best Gospel/Inspirational Award at 2024 BET

Nigerian artist Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, was honored with the Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award at the 2024 BET Awards held last night.

Tems triumphed over notable contenders including Shirley Caesar ("Award All of the Glory"), Kirk Franklin ("All Things"), Halle Bailey ("Angel"), CeCe Winans ("Come Jesus Come"), Erica Campbell ("Do You Believe in Love?"), Maverick City Music, Naomi Raine & Chandler Moore ("God Problems"), and Kirk Franklin again with "Try Love." Her acclaimed song "Me & U" earned her the prestigious award.

The Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award recognizes excellence in urban contemporary gospel music, with winners selected based on sales and the overall quality of their released content during the eligibility period.

Initially known as the Best Gospel Artist Award, it was renamed in 2017 to honor Dr. Bobby Jones. Kirk Franklin remains the record holder for this category with six wins.
