Kamala Harris Calls for Immediate Ceasefire and Hostage Release in Gaza

United States Vice President Kamala Harris has urgently called for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The plea came after her meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Thursday, where she expressed "serious concerns."

Following the discussions, Harris spoke to the press, revealing that she urged Netanyahu to agree to an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and to release Palestinian hostages. Highlighting the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Harris described the situation as "devastating," citing the tragic images of dead children and desperate people fleeing for safety.

“What has happened in Gaza over the past nine months is devastating. The images of dead children and desperate, hungry people fleeing for safety, sometimes homes displaced for the second, third or fourth time… We cannot look away in the face of these tragedies. We cannot allow ourselves to become numb to the suffering. And I will not be silent,” she said.

She emphasized the need to finalize a ceasefire deal, repatriate hostages, and provide essential relief to the Palestinian people. The call for action comes as Prime Minister Netanyahu visits the U.S. to discuss the situation with President Joe Biden, who also advocates for a ceasefire and the release of hostages.

The conflict between Israel and Hamas ignited on October 7 following an attack by the militant group on Israel.
