This afternoon, a double-decker bus on route 18 crashed into scaffolding outside a shop on Harrow Road, Maida Vale, resulting in four individuals being hospitalized and three others treated at the scene. The incident occurred shortly after 2 PM, causing significant damage to the front of the bus, including crumpled panels and smashed windows.
An eyewitness from Smart Beauty Salon, located a few shops down from the crash site, described the bus as "coming in like crazy," expressing their fear and shock at the event. The bus veered off Harrow Road and collided with the scaffolding in front of West 9 Food & Wine, near a zebra crossing, which could have been catastrophic if pedestrians had been present.
London Ambulance Service responded swiftly, with the first paramedics arriving within five minutes. A total of seven people received treatment, four of whom were transported to the hospital.
The response included ambulance crews, incident response officers, and the hazardous area response team (HART). Fortunately, the Metropolitan Police reported that none of the injuries were deemed serious.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson stated: "Our first paramedics arrived on scene in less than five minutes. We treated seven patients in total. We took four patients to hospital and discharged the other three at the scene."
The Metropolitan Police released a statement noting: "Police were called at 14:18hrs on Tuesday, July 16 to reports of a bus in collision with scaffolding at Harrow Road, W9. Officers and London Ambulance Service attended. At the scene, the bus, which was carrying passengers, had collided with scaffolding on a commercial premises.
Six people, including the bus driver, were treated by medics at the scene. None of the injuries are thought to be serious. Road closures and safety cordons are in place. There have been no arrests. Anyone who witnessed this incident or has dashcam footage should call police on 101 or post on X @MetCC quoting 4316/16JUL."
