A 34-year-old man has been charged with the murder of two gay men, whose dismembered remains were discovered in suitcases in Bristol and London. The Metropolitan Police identified the victims as 62-year-old Albert Alfonso, a French national with British citizenship, and 71-year-old Paul Longworth, a British citizen. The suspect, Yostin Andres Mosquera, had been staying with the victims at their flat in Shepherd's Bush before the murders.
The investigation began when Avon and Somerset Police responded to reports of suspicious activity on Clifton Suspension Bridge, where they discovered two suitcases containing human remains. Mosquera, who had traveled to the bridge by taxi, fled the scene but was later apprehended by armed police at Bristol Temple Meads Station.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Andy Valentine expressed condolences to the victims' loved ones and assured the public that the police do not believe there was a homophobic motive behind the crime. However, the incident is being treated as a hate crime under national guidelines. The police are not seeking any additional suspects at this time.
The Metropolitan Police have been working closely with the pan-London LGBTQ+ Independent Advisory Group to ensure the investigation is thorough and sensitive to the concerns of the LGBTQ+ community. Mosquera is scheduled to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court later today.
