Manchester United's striker, Marcus Rashford, has been handed a six-month driving ban and fined £1,600 after being caught speeding in his £560,000 Rolls-Royce.
The incident occurred on December 12, when Rashford was clocked driving at 104mph on the M60 near Stockport. This happened just weeks after he had crashed another Rolls-Royce. Rashford claimed he was speeding because he believed he was being chased by a white car, stating he frequently feels followed.
Manchester Magistrates' Court heard that Rashford was pursued by an undercover officer in an unmarked BMW, equipped with calibrated speed equipment. The officer, DC Maskrey, recounted that despite reaching speeds of no less than 104mph, he could not catch up to Rashford's car.
Rashford eventually exited the motorway onto the A34, where he was stopped by the officer who activated his emergency lights. Rashford explained his speeding as a response to feeling followed by a white vehicle, including the officer's white BMW.
The officer advised Rashford to call 999 if he felt threatened but noted that Rashford said he would have to call daily due to the frequency of such incidents. DC Maskrey reviewed video footage and found no evidence of a white car following Rashford.
Rashford, who attended the court session via video link, admitted to the speeding charge. District Judge Lucy Hogarth imposed six penalty points on Rashford's license, leading to the six-month ban under the totting-up procedure. Additionally, Rashford was fined £1,666, along with a surcharge of £666 and £120 in costs.
