Meta, the tech giant led by Mark Zuckerberg, has lifted all restrictions on Donald Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts. This decision comes shortly after Trump criticized Zuckerberg online.
On July 12, Meta announced the full reinstatement of Trump’s accounts as he vies for the GOP nomination ahead of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.
"In assessing our responsibility to allow political expression, we believe that the American people should be able to hear from the nominees for President on the same basis," Meta stated.
Trump's initial ban from Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter followed the Capitol insurrection in 2021. Although Meta reinstated his accounts last year, they warned of possible suspensions for future violations.
This recent decision follows Trump's aggressive post on Truth Social, a platform he created after his mainstream social media ban. Trump threatened to target "Election Fraudsters" and warned Zuckerberg with "ZUCKERBUCKS, be careful!"
While it's uncertain if Trump's remarks influenced Meta's move, the company emphasized that both Trump and President Biden would be held to the same standards, including policies against hate speech and incitement to violence.
It remains to be seen whether Trump will prioritize Facebook and Instagram or continue to focus on Truth Social.
